from Sunrise to Sunset

About

My name is Tanel. Or like I usually need to explain – it is like “tunnel”, but with an “A”.

The aim of this site is to share my travel stories, guides, help you with planning your next trip and complete your memories into your own story.

Why “from sunrise to sunset”?
As Cheryl Strayed wrote in her novel “Wild” which is a story of her hiking a part of the 4270km long Pacific Crest Trail :”There is a sunrise and a sunset every day and you can choose to be there for it. You can put yourself in the way of beauty.”

As you might guess, I like to travel. I like to travel so much that I have decided to spend most of my time doing that.
The first time I travelled alone, I was attending a student seminar in France, Lille in 2011. The experience of other cultures was really fascinating and I sought out more similar events and even went on to start a Tallinn branch of an international student organisation ESTIEM. With that organisation, I was lucky to visit a big part of the countries in Europe throughout my student days. During that time I also had my first long backpacking trip to South-East Asia – 2 months in 2015. I believe that trip was the one that really got me hooked on travel deep.

At the beginning of 2018, I quit my well-payed construction project manager job to travel. I spent the whole year backpacking around Asia. After that, I have been on-off back to Estonia and trying to spend more time on the road each year.
In 2020, when the pandemic started, I got “stuck” for 6 months in Mexico.
In 2021 I was travelling for 6.5 months and in 2022 I got that number to 8 months.

I have found my interest mostly in hiking trips and adventure travel

As I do videography and photography I am open for different collaboration offers. I have been working together with hotels and tour companies in Central and South America for promotional materials. I have been creating content for Estonian outdoor apparel and design companies.

Whenever possible I try to travel slow and immerse myself in a country and culture by spending more than a couple of weeks there. This is possible by staying on budget which allows me to experience the location more from a locals perspective.

Where I have been so far?

  • Wait for the waterfall
  • A little scramble in #serradacanastra #nationalpark in #brazil . Was trying to get better views over the 183m waterfall under me, but the only way was still to fly the drone.
  • #serradacanastra #brazil #mototravel #motoviajero
  • As I arrived in Serra da Canastra National Park, I really had no expectations. I had marked it down based on a brief Google search. As it was quite close to my planned route, I decided to include it in the itinerary. I got pleasantly surprised to find beautiful dirt roads upon my arrival in the evening. It was a quick 50km to my planned accommodation for the night where I arrived right with sunset. After some 70km of corrugated washboard gravel roads, it felt amazing to drive here.
But little did I know, the following days in the park were gonna bring quite unanticipated situations. #brazil #motorbikeadventure #mototravel #serradacanastra
