Guatemala is a country in Central America which offers plentyful activities from hiking on active volcanos to visiting ancient Mayan archealogical sites.
I was planning to travel through Central America right before coronavirus hit the world but because of the situation I was stuck in Mexico for 6 months. The following is a rough itinary I was ( hopefully am) planning to travel Guatemala & Belize during 1-2 months with.

Budget
Food and transportation are relatively affordable. Also, the accommodation should not be too expensive. Dorm beds about 10-15 €, private rooms 20-40 €. It all depends on what level of comfort are you looking for.
Attending different activities can easily double the price of the whole trip. In Guatemala, it will be necessary to book guided hikes for some volcanos, entrance to Tikal and scuba in Belize.
In general, I am expecting to stay around 1000-1500 € for a month-long trip to Central America. This is not a shoestring budget but also does not include 3-4-star hotel stays. Plane tickets are on top of that.
How to get there?
Almost the only possible/affordable option is to land in Guatemala City. Flights from USA (Miami, New York, Dallas) or Mexico (Mexico City, Cancun). Or travel by land from Mexico/Honduras.
