Hiking 500km on Lycian Way in Turkey

DONE!

I did the hike in May 2021. Check the video:

We will begin the trip in Istanbul. The largest city in Turkey which situates between Europe and Asia. Spend a couple of days in that historic city and then travel along the western coast of Turkey during 1-2 weeks all the way until Fethiye.

There will be some exciting places on the way like Çanakkale, Izmir, Selçuk and Pammukale Thermal Pools.

Fethiye is also the beginning of a 509(540) km long hiking trail called the Lycian Way which ends in Antalya. It should take about 25-30 days to hike the whole trail.

After finishing the trail, there is also at least one famous point of interest – Cappadocia with its hot air balloons.

about the hike?

This is a long-distance hike and I am not expecting for anyone to join for the whole thing.  Join me for a couple of days or a week or two. Who knows, I might not be even able to do the whole thing myself. It is a challenge for sure.

I am expecting to spend at least half of the nights on the trail camping out with a tent. There will be some kind of accommodation available as well (mostly family-run guesthouses in some villages).

Trekking the whole thing will take about 25-30 days.  The level of the trail is medium. There will be some challenging sections and also some easy days.

The weather is going to be pretty warm. It is not advised to hike this trail during summer months due to the heat. So spring/autumn are the best times.

May 2021.

It seems that the current pandemical situation is getting better in Turkey and they have recently started to ease up on the curfews and restrictions. If this trend continues and country will be opening up then it is possible to do the hike. For the trip to happen it is necessary that the guest houses and restaurants are open and transportation is operational. Also that no curfews are in place.
